Winter is over

Hello Poets,

Well, as least in our Haiku world.

It's almost midnight in the UK, so I am closing this blog.

You can start posting very soon on Spring Haiku 2009.

If you aren't a member, please go over there to sign in. We are always looking for new poets!

Thanks to Steve for organizing this site. We hope that you feel better now!

Signing off now!

the green comet
passed-by last night
behind clouds

winter – cling to life

deep breath of electric air

cross to Anelka…

sparrows sit
touching heads -
Spring inches in

rake … brown leaves … a ball

our last Fall day together

preserved under snow

Morning shivers on
the way to school. Coats pulled tight,
head bowed as in prayer.

mountainside forest

snow shaken from bough –

echo of axe

garden
full of the sea's roar -
the crow's nest sways

below a pale sun
people squelch here
and there through slush

stars gleam
dewdrops
on a spun sky

during the fourth watch
cold air seeps through the windows
and brushes my ear

Thursday, February 19, 2009

cold front

all night long she moans -
emptiness pregnant with sound
emptiness barren

in the night watches
frozen moon crosses window
drone of the clock

dark clouds roll away -
a crow drinks
from glittering tractor-tracks

through the window-
snow dances on the river
birds swooping down low

Under the surface
a rebel hidden
a vivid spring

during crazy day
outside the office window
fat cat just chillin'

bright line, connecting
me to your hospital bed
jet stream etch-a-sketch

the snow is too deep
for the pot-bellied pigs
but not too deep
for the children
standing on the swings

early shift-
stars fading into sun light
during the first break

from highest branches
crows' great commotion:
Spring approaching?

valentine's day breakfast

through quickening clouds
night orb's cold unyielding gaze
fixing winter fast

blustery morning-
tree branches stuck in fences
trash cans roll in alley

first pale shoots--
whisking the matcha
to a jade froth

snow on the apple tree -
warm in their buds
the apples

A coy winter sun

looks on, through naked branches

-a veiled promise

Snowmelt brings a false
sense of security
and an ankle twisted.

white winds
buffet from all angles
an icy path

crow back home
in the tree
shakes off his white cap

Flag of no nation

sundown's banner
seen through bare trees -
orange blue pink

overnight:
the park full
of abandoned snowmen

Awake, wondering,
whether you are asleep, somewhere
out there, full moon

winter blahs-
my salary frozen this year
at least there's a job

stooped arthritic tree
wrapped in vines against the wind
pale moon smiles coolly

Thrush and sparrow
unseen in naked hedgerow.
Ice crunches underfoot.

Starbuck run today
being glad for heavy coat
for later commute

finally sun--
the icicle's persistent
rhythmic drip

Wet in wet
clouds in treetop levels
an excuse for winter weather

frigid morning
lightly holding steering wheel

natural artist:
bare birch tree inks in shadows
across its scrolled skin

whirling flakes of snow
mute every sound; cover
the world in beauty.

fist light
last night's dusting of snow
melts into morning dew

the door opened
and down they fell -
all the christmas cards

morning errands
seeing the snow line
while heading north

Gentle white flakes float
Around the barking dog sound
Gathering numbers.

Basset in the snow--
Patchwork of brown, black and white
Howling at the sky.

cold front--
in the busker's guitar case
five copper coins

this sweet morning
the world is freshly dusted
with powdered sugar

hiding place...

another nut
on a snowy branch
gently tucked away by crow

Still snowing

through the night suburbs
we slept on a pillow of snow
that fell soft and delicate, down

late commute
snow dancing in the streetlights
taking the scenic route

the mid-winter thaw –

hear birdsong and see neighbors

this one afternoon

ice patch on boulder –

gentle nephew of him who

left her in that spot

pulling plump package
over ice, tug slackens
son's smile gliding by

tangled undergrowth -
forgotten clumps of old hair
caught in nature's brush

first fall

a gull
struggles against high winds -
the clatter of hail

white curtain falls

distant click-clack
of falling stones

one green shadow

This white-cold sun,
breath freezing on eyelashes -
gifts from Siberia

Valkoinen säihke,
hengitys jäänä ripsissä -
Siperian tuomiset

this rustic boat
rides its reflection

Snowflake here and there
through the garden
slowly floating
